ARABIC FOR BEGINNERS
A Step-by-Step Journey into the Arabic Language
Part 1: Getting Started
Welcome to Arabic
“Learn Arabic, for it is part of your Religion.” — Umar ibn al-Khattab Radiyallahu anhu
How To Use This Book
This book is not merely a language manual. It is an invitation to draw nearer to the Qur’an and to approach knowledge with humility, patience, and sincerity. The Arabic language is the vessel through which Allah revealed His final Book, and engaging with it is an honour before it is a skill.
As you begin this journey, gently remind your heart of your intention. Seek Arabic not for status, argumentation, or self admiration, but as a means to better understand the words of Allah and the guidance brought by His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ. Allah says:
“Say: Are those who know equal to those who do not know?”
Surah az Zumar, 39:9
The Salaf us Saliheen Rahimahullah would begin their pursuit of knowledge by correcting the heart before the tongue and pen. They understood that knowledge is an act of worship, and like prayer or fasting, it is only accepted when done sincerely for Allah alone.
Take this book step by step. There is no rush. Consistency, even if small, is more beloved to Allah than haste followed by abandonment. Revisit lessons as needed, practice gently, and allow understanding to grow over time. The Arabic language was preserved through patience, repetition, and reverence.
Most importantly, ask Allah for help. Turn to Him before each study session and ask Him to open your heart and grant you beneficial knowledge. For it is Allah who grants understanding, and it is by His mercy that knowledge becomes light rather than burden.
Note: This introductory part remains primarily in English to establish a firm conceptual and intellectual foundation before we transition fully into the Arabic script.
